Bart Vroomen
Bart Vroomen was born in the south eastern region of the Netherlands in 1987. There, he grew up in a culture of wind band music, causing him to start to play the flugelhorn at the age of 8, turning to the trombone at 16 after discovering a preference for the lower register.
Bart followed his Bachelor of Music in Maastricht (NL) with prof. Harry Ries and Fred Deitz (both trombonists at the Radio Symphony orchestra in Cologne), while exploring Jazz, Early Music and other genres. For his Masters’ degree, he specialized in Early Music and historical instruments in Cologne (D) with Wim Becu, graduating in 2013.
During his career, Bart has had the opportunity to work together with world class orchestras like Orchestre des Champs-Élysées, Dresdner Festspielorchester, Les Talens Lyriques, Gürzenich Orchester Köln, Residentie Orkest The Hague, and ensembles like Collegium Vocale Gent, La Fenice and Oltremontano.
He is a proud member of Ensemble InAlto and a frequent guest in many other groups, among which several of the aforementioned and working together with great fellow musicians and conductors (Herreweghe, Nagano, Rousset…).
Armed with his experience, knowledge and love for good music, Bart regularly teaches master classes at conservatories such as those of Brussels, Amsterdam, Dresden and Cologne.
Aside from his activities in classical and early music, he doesn’t shy away from other musical flavours and interesting experiments. The occasional escapade in a Big Band or ‘Tiroler’ brass group are not alien to him; a particular curiosity goes out to traditional music from the many corners of the world and its connection to our musical world of the present, be it historically informed or contemperary. As a player and as a teacher, Bart seeks to convey this joy and interest in not only historical, but first and foremost personal authenticity.
